Wine information:
Saint-Joseph is a French wine Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) in the northern Rhône wine region of France. While Saint-Joseph is primarily a red wine region based on the Syrah grape, there may be up to 10% of white (Roussanne or Marsanne) grapes in the blend. There is also a smaller amount of white wine made. The grapes for Guigal's Saint-Joseph Blanc come from the estates of Jean-Louis Grippat and Vallouit as well as some bought-in fruit. The vines are mainly situated in the communes of Tournon and Sarras and are situated on limestone and pebbly sand. Guigal's Satin-Joseph Blanc is a blend of 95% Marsanne and 5% Roussanne and, after temperature controlled fermentation, it is matured in a mixture of stainless steel and oak barrels. It has a brilliant, clear straw yellow colour. The nose is powerful and complex and there are strong notes of white flowers and delicate oak nuances. The palate has a very clean and supple attack with a very aromatic finish reminscent of pears and citrus fruits. A superb food wine, try it with fish starters or goats cheese. Can also be aged for up to 5 years if cellared correctly.
