Wine information:
C.V.N.E., or to give it its full name, Compañía Vinicola del Norte de España (The Northern Spanish Wine Company) was established on the 24th of March 1879 in Haro, Rioja. Set up by two brothers, Eusebio and Raimundo Real de Asúa. C.V.N.E. is based in the traditional neighbourhood of the station, in the heart of the Rioja wine region. Historically, some of the oldest wineries of Rioja Alta established themselves here in order to benefit from the ease of transport via rail to the port of Bilbao, the most efficient form of transport in those days. The Crianza isa blend of 80% Tempranillo and 20% Garnacha Tinta and Mazuela. Following alcoholic fermentation the wine was transferred to american oak casks where it remained for at least 12 months, with regular rackings to develop its finesse, before bottling and release. It is a bright cherry colour with some violet nuances. On the nose, red berries aromas remain over the oaky and balsamic notes from its aging in wood. It shows an elegant mouth pass, yet very lively, with some spicy back notes and a very balanced acidity.
