Notes - Trapiche, with over 120 years of history and owning over 1000 hectares of vineyards, are the number one exporter of Argentine wine in the world. Pedro González's vineyards are 8 years old and planted in a North – South orientation. The vines are head trained with cane pruning (double guyot and VSP). They are planted at a density of 2m x 1,2m (4166 vines/ha.) and yield 6000 kg/ha. The soils alluvial, sandy to sandy loam with a calcium carbonate layer at 0.7 m. The vines are on their own roots, ungrafted. The grapes are all harvested by hand into 20kg plastic cases and bought to the winery where each bunch and berry is hand selected and completely destemmed. Fermentation and maceration takes place in small concrete vats for a minimum of 25 days, at 23-25ºC. The malolactic fermentation process that takes place is natural and is followed by maturation of the wine for 18 months in new French oak. This Malbec is an intense, dark ruby colour. The bouquet is rich with sweet aromas of plum marmalade, cherries, honey and white chocolate combined on the nose. Textured and with a very pleasant mouthfeel, it displays muscular, intense tannins. Flavours of sweet spices linger on the palate together with notes of mocha and praline. Best decanted up to 2 hours before drinking and at between 16-18 C degrees. This voluptuous wine is a match for your best cuts of red meat, your richest stews and and your favourite fruit cake. 91 Points Wine Enthusiast and Wine Spectator.
