Pazo San Mauro Albarino Rias Baixas DO

Wine information: Bodegas y Viñedos del Marqués de Vargas is undoubtedly one of the most impressive cellars in Rioja today. Situated just outside Logroño in a privileged part of DOC Rioja, it has a superb and ultra-modern winery that produces wines only of the very highest quality from grapes grown in vineyards that are known as 'La Hacienda de Pradolagar' and belong to the family of the Marqués de Vargas. They border those of the Marqués de Murieta and the Marqués del Romeral, an area popularly known as 'Los Tres Marqueses'. However they have recently expanded their empire. The Pazo San Mauro winery, located in the Denominación de Origen Rias Baixas in Galicia, was acquired in 2003. Since then, the new owners have invested heavily in both the restoration of its magnificent buildings and the construction of a new wine cellar, with the most advanced technologies for the finest production of wine. In this winery two white wines from the Albariño grape are produced and all grapes are grown on the estate owned vineyards. This is a monovarietal wine (100% Albarino), resulting from a meticulous selection of the best grapes on the property, all from estate-owned vineyards, is made my Cristina Mantilla. The vineyard is situated in a privileged location in the Condado do Tea, on rolling banks of the river Miño that create a natural amphitheatre, bathed in extraordinary sunlight during the midday hours. Grapes planted on trellises so that the fruit, in very restricted production, grow in optimum wind conditions, reaching their peak quality. After hand harvesting into 20kg boxes the grapes undergo destemming, pressing and cold maceration. The wine then undergoes fermentation for 15 days in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature of 17-18ºC. Brilliant pale yellow with greenish hues. Complex aroma, revealing an intense varietal personality: ripe apple, peach, citrus and hints of floral, the Albariño grape in all its splendour. On the tongue, markedly fruity, flavourful, abundant and fresh. Very well balanced and a long floral finish. Ideal accompaniment to all seafood and fish dishes.
