Wine information:
A pleasant drink with an interesting freshness. Baillie Nicol Jarvie or BNJ as it's commonly known, has one of the highest malt contents of any blended whisky and contains only 'first class' ranked malts in the blend. Smooth, subtle and full of character, it has a delicate balance of sweet Speyside, aromatic Highland and peaty Islay malt whiskies blended with only the finest grain whisky. Named after a fictional character in Sir Walter Scott's 'Rob Roy' novel, Bailie Nicol Jarvie was a Glaswegian magistrate who distinguished himself in one famous incident in the book by tackling a fierce Highlander with a red-hot poker! Smooth blend offering notes of vanilla and pears. Full flavoured with a trace of smoke and a warm and balanced finish. On the label it claims "The Ballie Nicol Jarvie we believe, boasts the highest malt content of any blended Scotch whisky". This would suggest it is made with around 60% malt whisky as opposed the 20-40% normally used in blends. Distilled and sold in the UK by Glenmorangie. Deep rich mahogany with shimmering highlights. BNJ has a sweet and well-balanced nose with notes of vanilla, pears and possibly violets, some nuts and fresh hay. It has a full flavour, it is well balanced with a good body and a very slight trace of smoke. Every bit as mouth-watering on the palate as the nose suggests, with some lemon tartness countering the rich maltiness and almost chewable grain. Warm and balanced balanced finish, with a whiff of smoke. Very long for such a fragile blend, with an astonishing depth of simple malt and toffee.
