Wine information:
Paxton Vineyards was formed in 1979 by Viticulturalist David Paxton, it is a family-owned business located in the McLaren Vale on the
Fleuriel Peninsula. The McLaren Vale is renowned for the production of super premium quality wines – particularly red wines. In 2000 Paxton released their first wine, the 1998 Shiraz. Today, under the direction and guidance of Michael Paxton – David’s son and Paxton winemaker – Paxton produces seven estate grown wines under the family label. Paxton’s vineyards are spread across a wide range of sites and soil types and are managed by Senior Viticulturalist Toby Bekkers. All of the vineyards are managed using biodynamic principals (and are classified as organic as well) – a system of farming without the use of synthetic fertilisers and pesticides with a focus on promoting healthy, living soils through the use of natural compost preparations. Paxton Vineyards is also a member of
One Percent For The Planet. This is
McLaren Vale Shiraz at its finest. From the acclaimed 'Jones Block', located a couple of kilometers north of the township of McLaren Vale in the highly regarded sub-region of Seaview Ridge. The sections selected are the ‘Split Block’ and the ‘D Block’. The vines have an average age of 45 years. Hand pruning and thinning of individual bunches combined with minimal computer aided irrigation ensures the low and uniform yield required for the production of super premium Shiraz. ‘Split Block’ imparts savoury, black olive characters. ‘D Block’ imparts attractive rich berry fruit. A small parcel of fruit from 100+ year old vines managed with minimal irrigation, imparts a rich savoury character.
Tasting Notes:
Paxton Vineyards Jones Block Shiraz is a rich, savoury and spicy blend. There are notes of mulberry, dark plums and black pepper spice on the nose. The rich and full palate is dominated by more dark plums but with layers of chocolate mint and Chinese spices. A rich, savoury and splicy blend, this wine has a fleshy middle palate and great length.
