Wine information:
Longmorn was founded in 1984 by John Duff, Charles Shirres and George Thomson. Built on the site of an old Chapel, the Longmorn distillery is located approximately two and a half miles south of Elgin on the main road from Elgin to Rothes. The name Longmorn comes from "Lhanmorgund" meaning "place of the holy man". The distillery doubled its production capacity in 1972 and again in 1974. The number of stills went from 4 to 8. Seagram purchased the distillery in 1977 but now it belongs to "The Chivas and Glenlivet Group", part of Seagrambought by the French group Pernod-Ricard in 2001. Longmorn has been described as "Speyside's best-kept secret" - prized by blenders and savoured by connoisseurs, but not widely available to the general public as a bottled single malt. In 1994 a 15 year old Longmorn was launched. This has now been discontinued and it replaced by this whisky, the Longmorn 16 year old. On the nose there are cream, spice, toffee apple and honey notes. There is also a slight hint of waxiness and some nutty aromas. The palate is offers malty, heathery notes with flavours of fudge, butter, lots more spice and raisins. It is medium bodied in the mouth a quite clean. The finish is quite long with good vanilla / oaky notes and returning spiciness. Good balance, depth and length with a touch of dryness.
Long with returning spices.
