Notes - Since 1770 the Tupinier family have cultivated vinesin the Mercurey region. In 1997 Spaniard Manuel Bautista took over the reigns of the business from his father-in-law Jacques Tupinier and the business goes from strenght to strength. At Domaine Bautista-Tupinier harvesting is done manually, there are low yields and the vinification uses traditonal methods. Whole bunches of grapes are brought to the winery, after fermentation and a maceration of 15 days, racking and pressing the wine is matured for 12 months in oak barrels (50% new). The wines aged in Bautista-Tupinier's 17th century wine cellars which have been carved into the local rock. The grapes for the Mercurey Rouge Vieilles Vignes come from south-east facing single hectare vineyard. The soil here is composed of clay and limestone. Production is only 4500 bottles. The Vieille Vignes has aromas of black fruits which lead onto the palate where there are blackcurrant, blackberry and jam / confiture notes. A very harmonious, well-balanced, round, fleshy and silky wine. Try with Bresse chicken on a bed of potatoes or duck breast with a blackcurrant sauce.
