Wine information:
The commune of Aloxe-Corton has the unusual distinction of having over half its area covered in Grand Cru vineyards. It has an exposure ranging from east to south and Southwest. The Grand Cru vineyard of Les Pougets is directly adjacent to Le Charlemagne climat, on the upper and mid-slope. It is among the five vineyards of the commune in which the variegated soils, alternating between chalk and iron-rich marl, produce both Corton Pougets and Corton Charlemagne. This exceptional site yields a wine of sumptuous brilliance and complexity, powerfully structured and richly fruited. The aromatic Pinot Noir bouquet and deep, layered berry and oak flavours culminate in a seductive, persistent finish. The red wines will complement roast meat or meat in a highly-seasoned sauce, game and most cheeses.
"Even after the bottling the nose remains highly expressive with notes of freshly crushed berries, in particular cranberry, earth and a touch of spice that merges into intense and mineral-infused medium-bodied flavors that turn reticent and austere on the impressively long finish. Just as it was from barrel, this is beautifully balanced but it remains on the grumpy side and is going to need a long cellar snooze before it will play nicely with others. In sum, this is a Corton that makes no concessions to the "early accessibility" mantra so many present day wines adhere to - patience required." 91 Points Allen Meadows, Burghound, Apr01,2009.
