Notes - The Glenfarclas Distillery, established in 1836, is the true home of one Scottish family, the Grants, who since 1865 have been united by a single vision – the creation of the perfect malt whisky, the ultimate taste of Scotland. Glenfarclas was named Distiller of the Year 2006 at the whisky industry’s Icons of Whisky dinner. The 105 is a Cask strength bottling at 60%. It is deep peaty-gold in colour. The nose is complex with notes of oak, apples and pears, and a tempting dark toffee sweetness. The palate is dry and assertive and develops quickly to reveal a rich spiciness, combined with a hint of oak and sherried fruit. The finish is amazingly smooth for the strength; wonderfully warming and with a lingering smokiness, yet very rounded. A great whisky holding all the flavours of all the Glenfarclas in one glass. Being so warming, this is the perfect Hogmanay dram. The smoothness makes the 105 drinkable at cask strength, but I it is suggested that a little drop of water is added to fully release the enticing flavours and aromas. For its price to performance ratio, the Malt Maniacs named Glenfarclas 105 their ‘Bang for your Buck’ in 2004.
