Niepoort Dry White Port
is a rare style of dry white port, made with lengthy skin maceration and wood ageing. The white grapes undergo long skin maceration, occasionally with foot treading in lagares, with fermentation carrying on to near dryness, before the addition of pure grape brandy. Ageing is carried out in small old oak casks in Niepoort's cellars in Gaia for at least three and a half years prior to bottling. Niepoort Dry White is made from a blend of grape varieties - Codega, Rabigato, Viosinho, Arinto and Gouveio.
Niepoort Dry White Port has a golden brown colour with a delightful aroma of nuts and almonds which comes through on the palate with a fresh concentrated spirity finish, from extended ageing in small old oak barrels.
Food & Wine match:
Niepoort Dry White Port is lovely if served chilled as an aperitif or as a long drink with Tonic Water, ice and a twist of lemon.
"Dirk Niepoort also makes the best dry white port going, with atypical elegance and freshness" Philip Williamson & David Moore, Wine Behind the Label 2005 edition.
"A drier style of white Port, its richness coming from concentrated flavors of spice, almond and vanilla. There is some
good acidity to give the wine a refreshing aftertaste, leaving a flavor of dried oregano along with the spirit." 87 Points, Wine Enthusiast.
