Wine information:
Spectacularly positioned in the winelands between Stellenbosch and Kuils river, Hazendal Estate has a history dating back over three hundred years. The current owner, a Russian entrepreneur, has made considerable investment in both the natural and human resources of the estate – restoring the buildings and creating a stunning new cellar. In the cellar, Ronell Wiid became the first woman to win the prestigious Diners Club Winemaker of the Year award in 1999. 55% Shiraz and 45% Cabernet Sauvignon. The Shiraz vineyards were planted in the mid 70’s. Picked as ripe as possible to ensure good tannin levels. The Cabernet was planted in 1992. This deep red blend has an earthy, spicy, and upfront nose with aromas of smoked meat and ripe plums. The rich plum flavours translate to the palate and are met by black current and dark chocolate in the mid-palate. It has a bold tannin structure, a long finish, and a spicy aftertaste. The wine was matured for 12 months in French Oak barrels and needs time to develop to its full potential. Integration of different components would benefit from 3 to 5 years ageing. Pairs perfectly with roasted and grilled meats such as beef, venison, and rib-eye.
