Notes - Planted over a hundred years ago by Felice Pagani, the famous Pagani vineyard produces as little as one or two tons per acre on intensely flavored clusters that ripen at unusually high sugar levels. The occasional Petite Sirah and Alicante Bouschet vines dotted among the Zinfandel contribute to a deep purple blend rich with jammy fruit. This is a bold wine with dark hints of liquorice, chocolate, pepper, and black plum. Medium-bodied with a “great backbone,” one panelist declared this inky purple wine as “pleasant and drinkable…It makes me want to jump in.” It had complex aromas of dark berries, dried fruits, cassis, black pepper, earth, vanilla and soy. “Smooth, but forceful and exciting” flavors of chocolate, spiced raspberry jam, baked cherries, dried apricot, cloves, vanilla and raisin faded into a woody, fruity finish with highlighted by clove, dried fruit, black cherry, vanilla and oak - Rated "93" — The Wine Report, October 2005 . A whopping 15.5% alcohol!
