Wine information:
Cape Mentelle is one of the original wineries of the
Margaret River wine region. Founded in 1970 in one of the most remote wine regions of the world, the maritime influence of the Indian Ocean ensures even temperatures, providing consistently excellent vintage conditions. Cape Mentelle pioneered many of the region’s renowned wine styles and today is a benchmark for the quality of the region’s wines. Cape Mentelle today has over 200 hectares of its own vines across four regional vineyards. Contract-grown fruit is also sourced, with great care taken to build a relationship with growers to reflect regional character. Cape Mentelle
Shiraz draws inspiration from the techniques and wines of the northern Rhône valley in France. The fruit is destemmed only, cold soaked and traditionally fermented. Maturation in both large oak vats and small barriques is aimed at retaining refined fruit and floral characters along with the more savoury, spicy elements derived from the vineyard.
Tasting Notes:
Cape Mentelle Shiraz has aromas of sweet cherry liqueur and freshly hewn oak with a cigar box edge and a hint of nutmeg spice. The overall impression is of pure sweet, red, blue and black berries. This is a sensuous wine that caresses the palate with a coating of ripe fruit and gentle powdery tannins.
