Notes - Notes - Marqués de Vargas was built in 1989 on the Hacienda Pradolagar Estate in Logroño and was the first project of the Grupo Vinícola Marqués de Vargas. The winery, set in the middle of its own vineyards like a “chateâu”, is located in the heart of the Ebro Valley, in a region known as the "Los Tres Marqueses" or the “Three Marquis”. In this winery three premium single vineyard red wines are produced in limited production. 75% Tempranillo, 10% Mazuelo, 5% Garnacha Tinta and 10% other from average 22 year old vines from their 50 hectare Pradolagar Estate, harvested 4-15th October 2000 in trailers of 2,500 kilos. After fermentation in stainless steel vats of 22,500 kg at 29/30 deg.C for 11 to 13 days, remontage and pumping occurred daily for another 11 days with the grapeskins. Once racking and malolactic fermentation were completed, ageing began in January 2001 in 30% new American oak, 20% new French oak, 10% new Russian oak and 40% American / French / Russian oak, for 23 months, racked twice every 5 months, and then every 6 months. Bottled January 2003 without clarification or filtration and released March 2004. Deep, intense black cherry colour with violet rim. Powerful, complex nose with hints of leather and ripe fruit. Glorious structure, rich and powerful, concentrated and well-balanced, elegant tannins that add gamey, earthy notes to the ripe crushed berries. Ready for drinking now but has great potential for improvement in bottle. Time enhances its structure and aromas. Cork - Natural Extraflow. Alcohol - 14%. Total production 290,582 bottles of 75cl.
