Chateau du Glana

Wine information: Chateau du Glana, dating from 1870, is one of the leading Cru Bourgeois properties in St Julien. The area of vineyards was increased in the in the 1950/60s with the acquisition of vineyard plots from Chateau St Pierre and Chateau Lagrange. Today the estate has just over a 100 acres of vineyard planted mostly with Cabernet Sauvignon (67%) and Merlot (27%). The famous oenology professor, Denis Dubourdieu, assists with the winemaking. His philosophy of balancing modern technology while respecting tradition makes Château Du Glana a smooth, well-balanced wine which is enjoyable young, but also has the complexity to age a decade or more. The wine is typically a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc. The grapes are fermented in a variety of temperature controlled vats and the wine is then matured in oak barriques (20% new) for 15-18 months.

Tasting Notes: Chateau du Glana is a bright ruby red wine with a bold aromas of cedar, aged black fruits and exotic spices. A traditional Bordeaux with attractive dark fruit (blackberry, cassis & plum) and spice flavors on the palate and a beautiful finish of integrated tannins and well-seasoned oak.
