Wine information:
Barbeito is a family-owned company formed in 1946 by Mário Barbeito. Today Mario's grandson runs Vinhos Barbeito. Barbeito is a very traditinal cantiero style madeira and undergoes no de-acidification nor addition of caramel. Barbeito work closely with local producers and have input with them to ensure that each harvest the grapes are harvested to the specification of winemake Ricardo de Freitas. This allows the wines to begin the cask ageing process (Canteiro method) with good acidity. All the wines used to create this Boal Reserva have been aged at least 5 years in old French casks stored in Barbeito's different warehouses. This medium-sweet Madeira is delicious on its own or sits a wide variety of foods such as patés, blue cheeses, fruit cake and treacle or orange sponges.
