Wine information:
This rum is part of the Mezan range of single cask bottlings. These are all single cask (apart from the Jamaica XO, which is an aged blend) and single vintage bottlings. The idea behind the range is to bring to the consumer the story of the diversity of rum amongst the Caribbean Islands – styles and methods of production, and therefore the rums vary widely. The Mezan rums are also as natural as possible – after the casks have been selected they are not chill-filtered, nor is there any colour, sugar or other flavourings added. A family estate since the 1700s. Westerhall has been a sugar and rum producer for three centuries but did not actually bottle rum until 1978. The estate's sugar is now milled and molasses produced at the company's neihgbouring Morne Delice Mill and the old distillery has become a museum. Westerhall traditionally has a lighter and less smoky flavour than Jamaican and Guyanan rums. To use a Malt Whisky analogy, the column distilled Westerall Grenada 1998 is like a Lowland whisky in style - light, delicate and elegant.
On the nose hints of light toffee with mocha undertones. Elegant, fine rum with the palate showing similar characteristics to the nose and a beguiling sweetness on a wonderfully balanced finish.
