Tasting Notes - Grapes are sourced from the Gimblett Gravels Wine-growing District renowned for it's free draining sand, gravel and stone soils, high temperatures and long ripening season. The warm, long 2002 season has produced fruit of great acid balance and clearly defined varietal flavours. A small block of Syrah with each vine yielding around one kilogram of fruit were harvested at complete ripeness. A deep red / crimson colour with lovely black cherry, pepper and violet aromas. The palate shows the sweet fruit and opulence associated with ripe fruit while the tannins are firm but supple and approachable. Ideal with mild and strongly flavoured meats especially served smoked or chargrilled with rich reductions or sauces.
