Wine information:
Pommard is the first village encountered as you drive south from Beaune. Producing only red wines. Most of the vineyards are east to south-east orientation. The "Les Rugiens" vineyard consists of two parcels: Les Rugiens Hauts and Les Rugiens Bas, near the village itself, at the summit of the Pommard slope. The name Rugiens, a derivative of Rouge, describes the reddish colour of the soil, a result of its extremely high iron content. Pommard Rugiens is a typically robust, masculine wine with rich fruit and a powerful structure. This wine really requires some bottle age to reach its full potential (ideally 5 years plus). Pommard is an ideal partner for quite strong or spiced meats like game, marinated meats and most of the strong cheeses (Epoisses, Livarot, Pont l’Eveque).
