Notes - With a single holding of more than 330 acres at Guebwiller, Domaines Schlumberger is the largest Grands Crus producer in Alsace. All Schlumberger wines are estate-grown. Seventy five percent of the vines are planted on very steep, terraced slopes, requiring horses be used for field work. The outstanding quality of the wines is due largely to Schlumberger's superior vineyards, but also because yields are deliberately kept low. The winery produces only 80,000 cases annually, while the law allows for up to 160,000. The Domaine Schlumberger Pinot Blanc is made with equal proportions of Pinot Blanc and Pinot Auxerrois. It is a dry wine combining the freshness and characteristics of both grape varieties. This is a supple wine, fresh and dry on the palate which, like most Alsatian wines is an excellent food wine. Cellaring potential : 3 or 4 years. Food suggestions - Cold first courses, terrines, pâtés, salads, frog's legs, pork brawn, poultry or fish pastry, veal and pike quenelles, blanquette of veal, poultry fricassee, fish in cream, poached or grilled fish.
