Wine information:
This rum is part of the Mezan range of single cask bottlings. These are all single cask (apart from the Jamaica XO, which is an aged blend) and single vintage bottlings. The idea behind the range is to bring to the consumer the story of the diversity of rum amongst the Caribbean Islands – styles and methods of production, and therefore the rums vary widely. The Mezan rums are also as natural as possible – after the casks have been selected they are not chill-filtered, nor is there any colour, sugar or other flavourings added. Dutch, French and British Guyana were all united as one entity as British Guyana between 1831 and 1966 when Guyana gained independence. In the 17th century there were in excess of 200 distilleries which gradually shrunk until there were only 3 remaining in the 1970s - Enmore, Uitvlught and Diamond. These stills were all moved when the distilleries were merged into Demerara Distillers Ltd based at Diamond. Enmore closed in 1993 and Uitvlught in 2000. At the time of distillation Enmore would have been using the famous wooden pot still and the Uitvlught a Savalle four column still. The Uitvlught is delicate yet complex.
Light bourbon-like character on the nose with slightly candied notes. The plate is very fruity with a good mouthfeel – more fruit coming through on a finish that develops into candied orange.
