The Glenlivet 12 Year Old

Wine information: The Glenlivet Distillery is a distillery near Ballindalloch in Moray, Scotland that produces single malt Scotch whisky It is the oldest legal distillery in the parish of Glenlivet. By law, all Scotch whisky (even blended whisky) must be aged for at least three years but the minimum age of any whisky in The Glenlivet range is 12 years. The distillery draws water from Josie's Well and other springs a short distance from the distillery, the barley comes from Crisp Maltings, Portgordon and, lastly, Glenlivet's stills are lantern shaped with long, narrow necks, all of which helps to produce a light tasting spirit.

Tasting Notes: The Glenlivet 12 Year Old is a bright and lively golden colour. The nose has the exquisite delicacy of summer-like fragrances, with playful interlacing of floral and fruity aromas. There is a sensuous touch of exotic fruit, notably pineapple. It opens in time on creamier and richer notes of stewed greengages and ripe apricots. Oak tenderly enhances that enticing bouquet with more vanilla and nutty notes and an echo of toasted oats. On the palate honeyed floral notes shine through leavng a silky feel, flowing on the tongue. Smooth and sweet fruit notes of white peaches and pears poached in vanilla syrup. The finish has notes of marzipan and fresh hazelnuts followed by a gentle spiciness of grated ginger.
