The Joe Martin Stage Race is a nationally contested cycling race comprised of a four-day, four-event professional and a two-day, three-event amateur race. The race is ranked among the top-ten races on the National Racing Calendar (NRC), which is the pro and elite amateur cycling tour in the United States.
Race History:
The Joe Martin Stage Race began as the Fayetteville Spring Classic in 1978. Joe Martin, a Fayetteville advertising executive, served as the race director until 1988. The race was renamed in his honor following his death in 1989.

The Heritage Trail: One Route, Three Histories of Arkansas

The route of the historic Heritage Trail runs through the Garden. This class will trace the route of the Butterfield Trail Stage Coach, the Trail of Tears, and Civil War troop routes through NWA. Participants will learn why all three trail routes followed practically the same path and place themselves into life in 1850's northwest Arkansas.
Program presenters are experts in their fields and include: Marilyn Heifner, Director, Fayetteville Town Center; Susan Young, Outreach Coordinator, Shiloh Museum; John McLarty, Vice President of Arkansas Chapter of Trail of Tears Association; and John Scott, Superintendent of Pea Ridge National Military Park.

Discover Dragonflies

Participants will join dragonfly expert Bob Thomas for an introduction to the beautiful dragonflies and damselflies of the Garden. The first hour of this class will take place in the conference room, where Bob will share information about these flying jewels. The remainder of the morning will be spent in the garden, gently capturing, identifying, and releasing these fascinating insects.
Space is limited to 20 participants and the fee is $10 for BGO members and $15 for non-members.

Participants from the four states area participate in this annual event. They will be competing for cash prizes, trophies and bragging rights. Although the premise seems simple, the drivers must adhere to the rules of preparation of the cars and rules of engagement. The last three cars running in each of the four heats will compete in the final heat. The last one remaining in the championship heat will be declared the winner and will be awarded first place money of $3,000!

Join us for a 7.5-mile canoe trip on the upper Caddo River and take in the spring scenery. While the Caddo is typically ideal for intermediate-level paddlers, the degree of difficulty varies depending on water levels. Canoes, paddles, life vests and shuttle will be provided. We'll send confirmed participants a list of items to bring.

Flower Arranging Series: A Four-Part Workshop, will take place Wednesdays, May 21 and 28, June 4 and 11, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.
Participants will bring home a fresh flower arrangement each week of this four-part class. Thea Daniel of Rose of Sharon Event Florist will lead this hands-on workshop which will introduce participants to several styles of flower arranging. No experience is necessary. The course fee of $200 for BGO members and $215 for non-members includes instruction, flowers, and supplies. The class is limited to 12 participants, and payment of course fee is required to reserve your place.
