Notes - Bodegas Luzon was was founded in 1916 by a group of families with a long standing winemaking tradition. It was rebuilt and modernized in the late 1990's when a new young team brought in their expertise and new ideas. Jumilla has become the revelation among Spanish winemaking regions emerging as a leading force in the national and international scene. With ground breaking talent Bodegas Luzón has re-invented the traditions of winemaking in both terms of style and winemaking techniques. Monastrell is the main grape variety in Jumilla, there are records of it being grown there since the 14th Century, and this is a very important variety to Luzon. At Luzon, however, there are also plantings of Tempranillo, Cabernet Souvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Petit Verdot and the white grapes Chardonnay and Macabeo. This 100% Monastrell is aged 4 months in French and American oak barrels. It is a red garnet / cherry colour. The nose is quite sweet, with aromas of nuts, red fruits and roasted coffee notes. The palate is soft with a smooth sweetness, is very well-balanced and has silky tannins. There are juicy dark fruits (blackcurrant), notes of coffee and cocao hints derived from the period of oak ageing.
