Notes - This historic family-owned estate is named after its founder Cesare Pio, who established the business in 1881. It is based in Alba in the heart of the Piemonte region, nestled between the Alps and the Mediterranean Sea. The surrounding hills provide a
handful of ideal exposures for grape growing with unique micro-climates. The confluence of cold Alpine air with warm maritime moisture regularly creates a misty glow, or ‘nebbia’, over these foothills, hence Nebbiolo, the great red variety of the region. 100% Nebbiolo 30% aged in new French oak for 2.5 years and 50% in new Slavonian oak barrels for 3 years. Pio’s Barbaresco has quiet class and grace with an elegant body. It is glossy garnet in color with light ruby shades. The bouquet is intense and fragrant, with a hint of violets, cinnamon and vanilla. The palate is dry, full and vigorous, with overtones of peach. The wine has a quiet yet graceful power.
