Wine information: John Glaser and Compass Box Whisky are celebrating their 10th Anniversary and have released some Limited Edition bottlings to mark the occasion. Compass Box is a small independent specialist Scotch whisky company, devoted to making some of Scotland’s premier whiskies through the art of blending. Similar to fine wine negociants, they choose individual casks of whiskies from different distilleries, which offer complementary sets of flavours, and then blend the whiskies in small batches. Their whiskies have unusual names and the labels are contemporary in style; it’s all part of their vision: take a contemporary approach to a traditional product. At the core of everything they create is a desire to bring out a purity of flavour, a richness, a drinking experience that will call people back to their glass; to Compass Box, this is the true measure of a whisky’s quality. Flaming Heart returns in its third limited edition, with a new label illustrated by Alex Machin. Flaming Heart combines Highland, Islay and Island single malts, aged in a combination of American and French oak casks, to create a smokysweet flavour profile like no other Scottish malt whisky. Availability - One-off, limited release.Bottled in September 2010. Flavour Descriptors - A complex and smoky malt whisky with a rich, sweet, spice-laden fruitiness and long, llingering finish. Recommendations - Sipped neat or with the addition of water, to taste. Distillery Sourcing - Single malt whiskies from seven distilleries located in the northern Highlands and Islands. Primarily whiskies from distilleries located in the villages of Brora (Highlands), Port Askaig (Islay) and the Isle of Mull (Islands). Wood - 47% refill American oak, 34% first-fill American oak, 19% new French oak. Bottling Details - Bottled at 48.9%. Not chill filtered. Natural colour.
