Wine information:
The Latour family have long been established in Burgundy's wine trade. They began as vinegrowers in the village of Aloxe-Corton as early as 1768 and went on to establish today's business,
Maison Louis Latour, in 1797. Today they are one of the region's most famous names creating wines from their own 50 hectare domaine in the Côte d'Or and from grapes and wines purchased through the negociant arm of the business. Louis Latour are also one of the biggest growers in the Ardeche. The Ardèche region is situated to the west of the Rhone valley. The fertility of the soils was discovered by the Romans who have left abundant proof of having thrived in this attractive part of France. The consistency of climate and abundant sunshine in the
Ardèche perfectly ripen the grapes, whilst the drying
Mistral wind eliminates the risk of rot.
Louis Latour Grand Ardèche Chardonnay is treated as if it were grown in one of the
Grand Cru vineyards of the Côte-d’Or. Fully-ripened grapes are selected and pressed lightly before being aged in oak barrels made at the Latour cooperage in Beaune. The wine undergoes maturation for 8 to 10 months in oak barrels with 100% malolactic fermentation. The result is a full-bodied wine that is smooth with notes reminiscent of exotic fruits and vanilla spice imparted by the oak.
Tasting Notes:
Louis Latour Grande Ardeche Chardonnay has a pretty colour with green tinges. The bouquet reveals toasted bread notes and in the mouth it is rich, fat and smooth and lingers on the tongue. It is long in the mouth and with time this wine will really unfold.
Reviews:
"Nose of toasted nut and pear which is evolved on palate with addition of apricot and cream. Good length too." Bronze Medal at the 2011 International Wine Competition.
