Wine information:
Orovela is a super premium wine from Georgia, the world’s oldest vine growing region. Orovela wines are mainly made from oldest Georgian indigenous grape varietals like Saperavi and Mtsvane but using very modern wine-making techniques to produce modern rich tones. Grapes for Orovela are harvested at the Chandrebi Estate, located on the right bank of the Alalzani River, near the village of Ikalto in Kakheti - the main wine producing region of Georgia. "Orovela" are traditional ploughing songs that used to be heard echoing across the land as ploughmen went about their work. The Orovela Saperavi is the top wine from winemaker Lado Uzunashvili, it is aged for 12 months in a combination of French and American oak barrels and is a limited release of just 8585 bottles. The wine is an opulent ruby colour with rich mulberry, blackberry and cherry flavours. The tannins and soft anf velvety whilst a good tannin structure suggests this wine will ensure good ageing. “I can honestly say that Orovela Saperavi 2004 Kakheti, Georgia is the best Georgian wine I have ever tasted.” Jancis Robinson, www.jancisrobinson.com October 2007.
