Wine information:
Janneau Armagnac was founded in 1851 by Pierre Etienne Janneau and is the oldest of the great Houses of Armagnac and the most awarded armagnac in the world. Janneau’s vast stocks and unparalleled collection of old Armagnacs enables the skilful blending of several different Armagnacs to create consistent, award-winning styles. Two different methods are allowed by regulation to distil Armagnac, the continuous distillation method called ‘Armagnacais’ and the ‘Double Distillation’ method using pot stills. At the House of Janneau they blend brandies produced by both methods, a characteristic which distinguishes their Armagnac from all others. The VSOP is a blend (assemblage) of
Armagnac aged for a minimum of 7 to 14 years (by law to be called
VSOP it only has to be 4 years old). The white wines come from the two regions of appellation contrôlée : Bas Armagnac and Tenarèze and are distilled using both the double distillation method (80%) and the single distillation (20%). The ‘eaux-de-vie’ are then aged separately mostly in Limousin oak casks and are blended together before bottling.
Tasting Notes:
Janneau VSOP has aromas of plums with strong notes of vanilla. The palate is very well structured, very soft, with vanilla and liquorice notes. It has a good persistence in the mouth and a finish of dry prunes. An elegant Armagnac, soft and subtle, representative of the
Janneau style.
Food & Spirit match:
Perfect brandy to be served at the end of a meal in a tasting glass or in a large tumbler glass with, possibly, some ice cubes.
