Notes - Acquired by Domaines Barons de Rothschild in 1999, this 550 hectare estate has undergone a vast rehabilitation programme. 158 hectares of vines have been replanted with carefully selected traditional Languedoc grape varieties: Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Carignan, complemented by Cabernet, Merlot and Chardonnay. The estate buildings (an entire small village, in fact) were restored at the same time and a new winery, with State-of-the-art equipment and technology, has been installed in the old cellars, in the heart of the vineyard. Château d'Aussières is the top cuvee resulting from very strict selection from the best parcels of the vineyard and produced in limited quantity. 40% is aged in oak barrels during 12 to 16 months. The Chateau d'Aussières is a wine of density and exceptional finesse which fully express the richness of the late-ripening and cool terroir, perfect for producing elegant wines. Grape varieties are Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Carignan. The wine is a very dark garnet-red, virtually black. with an intense yet still somewhat closed nose dominated by fresh red fruits with hints of oak, spices and coffee. Complex and very well married aromas. A supple attack and an immediate impression of opulence. Good balance and consistency on the palate, with good length. At its best from 2006.
