Montagny 1er Cru La Grande Roche

Wine information: The Latour family have long been established in Burgundy's wine trade. They began as vinegrowers in the village of Aloxe-Corton as early as 1768 and went on to establish today's business, Maison Louis Latour in 1797. Today they are one of the region's most famous names creating wines from their own 50 hectare domaine in the Côte d'Or and from grapes and wines purchased through the negociant arm of the business. The company has been in family ownership for 11 generations and is now led by the 7th Louis Latour. He is ably supported by Chief winemaker Jean Charles Thomas, and Denis Fetzmann and Boris Champy who run the Domaine. Montagny with its East / South-Easterly aspect is one of the main grape-growing areas of the Cote Chalonnaise. The vineyards are only devoted to the Chardonnay grape. Vines are grown on steep slopes at about 400 metres (1200 feet) and benefit from both the warmer climate and the marly chalk soil. Montagny is also home to Maison Louis Latour’s very own Montagny Premier Cru La Grande Roche. There are some very high quality wines from the Montagny villages and the the high quality of the vines being a direct consequence of their limestone bedrock and admirably oriented slopes. The vineyard is located at top of the hillsides therefore catching plenty of sunshine which aids the great concentration of flavours in the grapes.

Tasting Notes: Louis Latour Montagny 1er Cru La Grande Roche is pale yellow in colour and has a floral nose paired with notes of exotic fruits and almonds. In the mouth is is fat and rounded with a hint of pepper. Nice freshness on the back-palate and good length on the finish.
