Tasting Notes - These three varieties originated in the Rhône Valley, France. In Australia, Shiraz has become the most planted red grape variety renowned for its rich, spicy flavours. Shiraz has become a speciality at Mitchelton. Mourvèdre is planted in only small volumes in Australia and, as it produces wine which can be dark, tannic and is often blended with the fragrant and delicate Grenache varietal. The Mourvèdre provides rich, chocolatey, earthy flavours to form the textural component of the blend. Grenache gives fragrance, brightness and delicacy. The Shiraz adds violet and black cherry flavours and contributes structure and length.
