Wine information:
Miguel Torres acquired a small winery in
Curicó, in the Chilean central valley, in 1979. It was the first foreign company to back Chilean vineyard production. After almost thirty years, those original 100 hectares have turned into 445 hectares of vineyards owned by the company itself. The excellent climate conditions for cultivating grapevines, with great temperature differences between night and day and lands free of grape phylloxera, have contributed to the fact that sublime wines are being made in lands from where one can view the greatness of the Andes, crowned by snow and a noble beauty. As of 2010
Miguel Torres Chile is directed by Miguel Torres Maczassek, a fifth generation Torres winemaker who moved to Chile with his family in order to maintain the tradition and passion for winemaking that the Torres family has demonstrated for over a hundred years. Torres Cordillera Chardonnay / Viognier is a unique, exclusive wine, made from three excellent types of
Chardonnay (85%), each with different organoleptic characteristics, and 15%
Viognier. The grapes are macerated cold, then fermented in new casks of French oak from the Nevers forest for 6 months. The wine is aged on its less for eight months.
Tasting Notes:
Torres Cordillera Barrel Fermented Chardonnay / Viognier has a generous nose with highlights of apple and hazelnut fruit aromas, typical of the three different, specially selected Chardonnay clones. These are complemented by fine nuances of toasted bread and vanilla. The palate is meaty and dense, well outlined by delicate acidity. Its long finish emphasises elegant, spicy nuances and a toastiness typical of Nevers oak.
Food & drink match:
Sublime with caviar. An ideal accompaniment to trout, smoked salmon, fresh shellfish, baked fish or fish cooked in sauce.
