Notes - Central Otago, New Zealand’s most southerly wine region, is unique in being the country’s only continental climate and is typified by free-draining schist, river gravel soils and high sunshine hours. This wine takes its name from the site that started the Otago gold rush when Gabriel Read discovered gold here in 1861, and displays characters typical of the region. The vineyards of the Bendigo sub-region of Central Otago, where the majority of this wine comes from, is one of the warmer Central Otago areas, with a below average rainfall. Deep garnet in colour this wine exhibits spicy black cherry and dark plum fruit aromas. Dried wild thyme and chocolate, with hints of violets and oak toast add to the aromatic complexity. On the palate ripe spicy dark cherry and plum progress to a rich chocolate finish. Velvet tannins support and balance the fruit intensity. This wine's concentration of fruit flavour and complexity make it an ideal match for a wide range of foods. Enjoy with red meat dishes especially game. Dark berry jus or mushrooms will complement this wine. This wine may be enjoyed now but could becellared for up to six years will
