Notes - The Dr. Loosen estate has been in the same family for over 200 years. When Ernst Loosen (pronounced loh-zen) assumed ownership in 1988, he realized that with ungrafted vines averaging 60 years old in some of Germany’s best-rated vineyards, he had the raw materials to create stunningly intense, world-class wines. To achieve this, Ernst dramatically reduced his crop size and stopped all chemical fertilization, preferring only moderate use of organic fertilizers. And, most importantly, he turned to gentler cellar practices that allow the wine to develop its full potential with a minimum of handling and technological meddling. These little quarter bottles will make excellent stocking fillers or perhaps suffice if only one or two people want to drink a dessert wine and don't want to open a full or half-bottle. It is also an excellent oportunity to try a Beerenauslese at an affordable price. Here are Jancis Robinson's tasting notes from her website www.jancisrobinson.com - Liquidised dried apricots with a seam of lemon freshness. In fact, incredibly fresh given the sweetness level (160 g/l RS). Purity and power combined. Slides down. Mainly Bernkasteler Lay. Picked first week in October, thus benefiting from the early, most elegant and freshest botrytis. Stunning.
