Wine information:
The newly released Mas des Mas is a collection of Paul Mas Estate single vineyard wines coming from the Languedoc Roussillon’s best terroirs. The wines made by Jean Claude Mas claim to be a perfect synergy between the New World attitude and the Old World Village appellation philosophy: pure fruit-driven wines with Old World traditional emotion. The Pézenas denomination is one of the youngest within the AOC Coteaux du Languedoc. The city was made famous by Molière, one of the most famous French writers, in the XVII century. The vineyard is located at an altitude of 150 meters and enjoys a privileged Southern exposure, with a soft Mediterranean sea influence. It enjoys good thermal amplitude. This is a blend of Mourvèdre 38%, Grenache 30%, Syrah 28% and Carignan 4%. All of these are from vines over 20 years old (the Carignan is over 50 years old). After the malolactic fermentation, the differnet component of the wine are blended from the different grape varieties. The wine is then aged during 11 months, partly in American oak barrels (30%) and partly in lined cement vats (70%). The Mas de Mas Pézenas has a deep red colour, with black tints. The nose is powerful with black berries aromas, scrubland scents (maquis), olive pasta (tapenade). The palate is rich but has soft tannins with red berries and liquorice notes. This wine will age very well, a minimum of 6 to 10 years of ageing potential. Food pairing: game, red grilled meats, lamb, red-sauce pasta, medium to strong cheeses.
