Wine information:
Domaine de Chez Maillard is an exceptional site producing outstanding cognacs. The vineyards have excellent chalky soils and receive above average sun due to their superb aspects; in short, the vineyards offer the perfect terroir to produce this distinct cognac. For the past five years, owner Francis Abécassis has awakened the world to quality Fins Bois cognacs produced on his 53 hectare estate. He has not only renovated the entire estate and its vineyards, added modern stainless steel fermenting tanks and new ageing cellars but he has also ensured that the distillation is supervised by an award-winning distiller. Additionally, he has disposed of all cognacs not regarded as having the required typicity and invested in new oak— sound investments for the future of the estate’s cognacs, which have already begun to win medals and plaudits around the world. The Cognac Leyrat Glory Extra Old derives from a long forgotten group of barrels at the very end of the "Chai Paradise" cellar at the Leyrat Estate. There are no records of when these Cognacs were put in the barrels. Leyrat do know that over many years the there has been a natural reduction of the alcohol content to an ideal 40% and that the Glory Extra Old blend is at least 40 years old with remarkable vivacity and freshness. It has an old gold in colour. The nose has remarkable floral freshness with leafy undertones. First impressions yields fine spice, notably cinnamon and aromas of stewed fruit and quince. The palate is exceptional for its smoothness, packed with peach and apricot flavours and with a hint of resin and honey in an elegant and powerful finish. Leyrat Glory Extra Old is presented in a unique decanter with a luxury wooden box, that can be used as a humidor for cigars.
