Wine information:
This beautiful farm on the east-facing slopes of the magnificent Constantiaberg and barely 12km from False Bay, originally formed part of the Constantia Estate, which was founded by Simon van der Stel, the first Governor of the new Dutch colony at the tip of Africa. Buitenverwachting means “beyond expectation” and this winery, dating back to 1773, certainly lives up to its name. Environmentally friendly farming was introduced several years ago and an holistic approach is taken, Buitenverwachting’s dairy cattle provide the “clean” manure for the vines and the resident ducks are constantly on snail patrol. Rooted in deep, decomposing granite soils and cooled by temperate sea breezes from the nearby oceans, Buitenverwachting’s vines produce internationally acclaimed wines of great complexity with unique aromatic profiles. This off-dry wine was made in a Germanic Mosel style and offers elegant nutty and fresh "Granny Smith" like characterstics followed by an elegant sweet-sour after taste.
