Wine information:
Situated in the Cape Winelands of South Africa the barrel-vaulted cellar buildings of Eikendal Vineyards form a distinctive landmark on the R44 route, positioned between the historic university town of Stellenbosch and the residential suburbs of Somerset West. Since 1981 the 76 ha large wine farm has been under the ownership of the Saager family from Zurich/ Switzerland. This 100% Semillon is made only from grapes from the estate vineyards. The grapes were pressed immediately after picking and the must allowed to settle before being placed in small oak barriques to ferment. After fermentation the wine was left on the lees to mature for six months. Eikendal Semillon has layered aromas – gorgeous beeswax and notes of grapefruit underlined with hints of toffee. Powerful and lively in structure, with an expressive lemon-honey viscosity combined with creamy richness leading to an elegant finish. A complex wine which will match richly sauced dishes, salmon, poultry and charcuterie.
