Cote de Brouilly "Veillée"

Wine information: Cote de Brouilly is one of the lesser know appellations of Beaujolais. The co-operative of Cave des Vigneron de Bel Air has existed since 1929. It is a small, highly regarded co-operative who win many medals in French wine competitions. Recently voted one of top 500 French producers by Guide Hachette. The Appellation of Côte de Brouilly is located on the higher slopes of the extinct volcano Mont Brouilly within the Brouilly Cru Beaujolais. The slopes of the mountain are famous for their "blue stone" which has the reputation as the hardest rock of France. The wines from this appellation tend to be more deeply concentrated with less earthiness than Brouilly wine.

Tasting Notes: Cote de Brouilly "Veillée" is quite aromatic compared with most of the other Beaujolais Crus. It has a good, youthful, red / purple colour. The nose is fruity and ripe with aromas of violets and rasperberries. The palate has plenty of fruit and is soft, round but quite lively. There is also good acidity. The finish is soft and has has decent length.

Food & Wine match: Can be drunk now or will develop more elegance over 3 to 5 years. Try with meats; stewed rabbit; poultry in rich sauces or particularly goat's cheese.
