Wine information:
In the heart of Languedoc-Roussillon, Baron Philippe de Rothschild's winemakers have selected the areas with the best soil and climate for growing the Viognier grape. In the region around Limoux in particular, offering a patchwork of micro-terroirs, they have chosen the highest quality parcels from their growers' vineyards. Viognier prefers areas with a temperate climate and poor soil. Baron Philippe de Rothschild's winemakers have selected the Oceanic, Autan and upper valley terroirs: their soil – sandstone,
gravel and red clay – and their cool climate favour the development of Viognier's unique and complex fruit and blossom aromas. The wines from each parcel are vinified separately before final blending. The wines are matured on fine lees in vats for six months then quickly bottled at BPDR's Saint-Laurent-Médoc winery in order to preserve all their freshness and fruit. A fine, deep gold, the wine has an intense nose displaying a highly complex mix of fresh and preserved fruit aromas (apricot, peach, quince jelly) with some attractive floral notes. Very round on the palate, it combines powerful flavours with a rich and expansive structure to give a pleasant impression of fullness. a dense and substantial finish rounds off this ample and generous, elegantly creamy wine.
