Wine information:
Sepp Moser Estate was founded by the famous Austrian wine producing pioneer, Lenz Moser. Lenz Moser's son, Sepp Moser, began operating under his own name in 1987 and handed over the direction of this family-owned estate to his own son Nikolaus in the year 2000. The Sepp Moser Estate comprises of 50 acres of vineyards in two prominent wine regions; Kremstal (22 ha) and Neusiedlersee (28 ha). In the Kremstal, Nikolaus produces an international range of varieties as well as the ever more important local varieties of
Gruner Veltliner and Riesling. The reds are produced on the gravelly soils of the warm southern
Neusiederslee village of
Apetlon. The Gruner Veltliner grapes for this dry white were grown on the steep, rocky terraces of Rohrendorf in Kremstal. The löss soil on these steep terraces is rich in lime and sediments from the last ice age. It can be up to 35 metres thick! The grapes were hand harvested. In the winery the grapes were destemmed and crushed and the must left for another 3-4 hours before pressing. The must was fermented and aged in stainless steel and the wine was bottled under screwcap.
Tasting Notes:
Sepp Moser Gruner Veltliner is Pale lemon yellow with green tinges. The palate combines citrus fruit characters such as lime and grapefruit with a hint of spice and a backbone of steely acidity. Dry and crisp. A fresh and fruity, yet crisp, white from Austria's signature grape variety.
