Wine information:
Quinta dos Roques ia a dynamic and exciting estate, making a sometimes bewildering array of different wines. With 12 different plots totalling 40 hectares, the Roques vineyards are around 450 to 500m. Quinta dos Roques pioneered the idea of varietal bottling in Portugal with their 1996 wines, and were probably responsible for the Touriga Nacional gold rush which followed. Despite their fame, Roques remain a small producer, with many of their bottlings not exceeding 1000 cases. This is wine comes from the old Pessegueiro vineyard, a typical field blend of Dao red grapes, aged in new barriques and allowed to mature sometime in bottle. Quinta dos Roques Reserva Tinto is a blend of Touriga Nacional 55%, Alfrocheiro 20%, Jaen 15%, Tinta Roriz 5% and Tinta Cao 5%.
Tasting Notes:
Quinta dos Roques Reserva Tinto is a brilliant deep dark colour, with an intense fruit bouquet reminding wild blackcurrants and pine leaves, with vanilla and chocolate notes given by the oak. On the palate it is very generous with the astringence characteristic of its youth, foretelling a remarkable ageing due to its great balance between alcohol, acidity, tannins and body.
