Wine information:
Berton Vineyards was established by Bob & Cherie Berton in May 1996 with 75 acres of land at 450m above sea level on gently rolling hills in a sub-region of
Eden Valley in South Australia. In 2007 Bob purchased the Yenda winery in the heart of the Riverina. This state of the art facility has the capacity to process 10,000 tonnes, and allows Berton Vineyards to produce value for money wines which sit alongside his premium single vineyard offerings. Foundstone is the foundation on which the Berton Vineyards portfolio rests. Sourced from vineyards in the sunny south east, these wines are consistently full of flavour and made so that they are ready to drink now. The
Semillon grapes selected were from old vines. Harvest was in early May when the
botrytis infection was light and an optimum of 22 baume. The grapes were not de-stemmed but crushed direct to a bag press, pressed and then cold settled for 48 hours, the juice was then racked off juice lees and inoculated with yeast. The ferment was carried out in stainless steel tanks and kept at temperatures of between 14 and 16 degrees. fermentation was stopped at the desired sweetness by chilling the ferment quickly to 0 deg C.
Tasting Notes:
Berton Vineyards Foundstone Raisined Semillon is sourced from the Riverina region and displays aromas of dried apricots and apple. The palate shows luscious apple and apricot flavours which are beautifully balanced by zingy acidity and quality oak.
