Wine information:
Trapiche buy grapes from many different growers. Each year they choose three different single vineyard Malbecs, from three different growers to represent the best Malbec that Trapiche can offer in a particular vintage. It is a great accolade for the growers to be chosen for this honour.
Daniel Pi - Trapiche's Head Winemaker - and his winemaking team have lead the unification of vineyard management and winemaking at Trapiche, and are now recognised as the Malbec specialists of Argentina. Each vineyard is located in different areas in Mendoza and at different altitudes, this variation in terroir leads to three markedly different wines. Dominigo faustin Sarmiento, once retired after having dedicated his life to commerical activities, began thinking about how he should make a lifelong dream come true: owning his own wine estate. Don Domingo's vineyard is located in La Consulta, San Carlos, in Valle De Uco, at 1030m above sea level. Owning it has meant a significant effort; nevertheless it has also rewarded him with much satisfaction, such as being recognised as one of the best three vineyards of the 2007 harvest. The average age of the vineyard is 11 years. After harvesting by hand, bunch selection, destemming and then berry selection the grapes undergo fermentation and maceration in small concrete vats for 25 days at 23-25ºC. After some natural malolactic fermentation the wine is then aged 18 months in new
French oak barrels
Tasting Notes:
Trapiche Single Vineyard Malbec Domingo F. Sarmiento Malbec has a dark, garnet color, with sweet caramel, mocha, vanilla, and cinnamon aromas. Redolent of red fruits. The mouth is full-bodied, viscous, pleasant and balanced in with a high concentration of red fruits such as plums and cherries. Elegant tannins and a long, lingering.
Reviews:
"The 2007 Malbec Single Vineyard Vina Domingo F. Sarmiento has greater aromatic complexity, more structure, and greater length. It should offer a similar drinking window extending from 2012 to 2022. 93pts." Robert Parker
