Notes - Ferraton Père et Fils was founded by Jean Ferraton and his father-in-law, Jean Reverdy, in 1946 in the Hermitage and Crozes-Hermitage appellations. Ferraton maintains vineyard holdings in Hermitage and Crozes-Hermitage and their cellars are located in the heart of Tain l'Hermitage. In 1994 Jean Ferraton's grandson, Samuel, took over. Samuel Ferraton is very much an artisan winemaker - yet he employs many modern techniques that he picked whilst working with Chapoutier. In 1998 Ferraton formed a partnership with Chapoutier which saw all of the estate's vines converted to biodynamic production and become organically certified. The Chapoutier - Ferraton relationship is a synergistic one and their winemakers and oenologists work very closely with each other. The wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered. The Ermitage Blanc Le Reverdy, named after founder Jean Reverdy is composed 50% Roussanne and 50% Marsanne from 30 year old vines. It is aged 12 months in barrel. It is a bright golden colour and has aromas of ripe fruits, including peaches and apricots, and toast oak. The palate is full-bodied, rich and very complex - there are flavours of peach, toast, cinnamon and vanilla with fine acidity. The finish long and the oak is very well integrated.
