Wine information:
English immigrant Edward Tyrrell established
Tyrrell’s Wines in 1858 in the lee of the Hunter Valley’s
Brokenback Range, New South Wales. This land has become recognised as home to some of the Hunter Valley regions finest vineyards, and the basis for development of one of Australia’s most successful privately owned wine companies.
Tyrrell's Winemaker's Selection is one of Australia's oldest and most awarded collection of wines, adhering to timeless styles that transcend trends and fads. These five individual wines, all originate from Tyrrell's finest and oldest vineyards around their historic
Pokolbin winery in the Hunter Valley, New South Wales. Each wine follows a Vat numbering system representing the barrel the wine was either fermented or matured in.
Tyrrell's Vat 8 Shiraz / Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of 87% Shiraz and 13% Cabernet Sauvignon. Fermentation took place in open top ferments where the juice was hand plunged and pumped over four times daily. After fermentation the wine was transferred into new and one year old barriques, which were a mixture of French and American oak. The wine was matured in these barriques until bottling in May 2005.
Tasting Notes:
Tyrrell's Vat 8 Shiraz / Cabernet Sauvignon has a nose dominated by the strong varietal aromas of both varieties whilst the palate has quite distinct blackcurrant and cassis Cabernet Sauvignon characters with well-balanced tannins. The Hunter Shiraz adds length and richness to what is already a complex and full flavoured wine style. Bottle age will only encourage the complexity and quality that has been achieved through blending two great red varieties.
