Notes - The Côtes de Castillon offers excellent value for money, it is located on the right bank of the Dordogne river in the districts of Gardegan and Tourtirac not far from St. Emilion. Philippe Bardet, bought the total estate of 35 hectares in 1979, 3.7 hectares planted with vines. The average age of the vines is 27 years and they are Merlot (80%) and Cabernet Franc (20%). The principles of "Agriculture Raisonnée" are followed at this estate, which is essentially substainable farming with minimal use of chemicals and pesticides. The wine is aged for 12 months in oak barrels, 20% of which are new, and production is a relatively small 24,000 bottles. The Cuvée Alice is a well-balanced, meaty and supple wine with black berry fruits and blackcurrant aromas intertwined with slight woody notes and mellow tannins. Would match best with red meats, game and hard cheeses.
