Notes - Coteaux du Layon is located in the Anjou region of the Loire along the Rivery Layon. Coteaux du Layon Chaume is considered the best appellation for sweet wines within the Coteaux du Layon classification. Domaines des Forges is located in St Aubin de Luigné and is currently under the ownership of the third and fourth generations of the Branchereau family - Claude and Stéphane. Most of their production is given over to the production of sweet wines. 100% Chenin Blanc. The 1994 Coteaux du Layon Chaume has a rich, golden colour, there are aromas of honey, burnt fruit, caramel, figs and acacia. The palate is rich and full-bodied but with very good acidity so that the wine is not cloying at all. On the palate are further notes of toffee, spice and a good amount of burnt / stewed fruit flavours. The finish is surprisingly fresh and quite lengthy. A tradtional match for this wine are the cheeses Livarot, Maroilles and
Pont l'Eveque although it would go well with fruit desserts or simply as an aperitif.
